Injera

Injera is a flatbread and a spongy bread. It is made out of a cereal called Teff, which is a small grain quite nutrition found in Abyssinia, also known as Ethiopia. This meal is the traditional dish for Ethiopians. It’s very similar to crêpes but it’s thicker and this meal is eating at lunchtime or for dinner. It has a bubble texture and it has a sour flavor. The dish is eating with hands. It’s very good and it has a diversity of ingredients.

It is very typical and local for Ethiopians to feed one another with their hands. It symbolizes a gesture of love and friendship towards the person they decide to feed. You might wonder the way they do it. Basically, the person who wants to feed someone stripped off a small piece of Injera with her/his hand then wraps it with some ingredients such as meat, curry, and vegetables. Afterward, they put it into their friends’ mouth. The friend who receives the slice of bread on her/ his mouth should accept it.

The benefits of Teff are…

  • Rich in fiber
  • Protein.
  • A great source of carbohydrates.
  • It contains an excellent source of iron.

“He estado pensando QUE mi pijama es blanco Y No he dormido”

I wrote until three in the morning, a Wednesday. a casual Wednesday but entertaining I felt so virtuous, so vigorous, now I don’t have enough words to describe it.

Throughout the time, I scribbled I was thinking that my pajamas is white. White as a snowdrift ; cold, soft and smooth. When I looked at the clock that was right next to my lamp made of salt, it was too late. I realized that I have not slept. How is it possible that the time passed so fast? How is it possible that so little time had been transformed into hours? It should not surprise me. When we enjoy doing something… time is flying past.

Seldom, we would like to see those moments will become years but you have to know how to divide the tasks, knowing ways to change and enjoy different activities during the day.

You have to know and want to learn new skills. If we are always on the same page, we will never have the pleasure of savoring new smells. There is always time for everything but you have to know how to choose and set-up your time.

Three words; choose, decide, and learn.

Travelling tips.

Starting a new adventure always sounds interesting and exciting. Normally, travel experiences enrich the person. Learn new knowledge, understand other cultures better, see places or people different from your daily routine.

As many of you have heard, traveling is expensive but it is impossible? Everything in life is possible if you make it possible. All this only depends on you, if you want to take a step forward or stay in the same place. Only you can make a change. Not in the change of your way of life but a change in wanting to travel and find ways to do it. In the case that you want to make a change in your life that is a different topic.

First of all, not everyone has the privilege of traveling. Many times it depends on the conditions in which you find yourself. If you are a person who works a lot, you do not earn enough money and you see that you can not afford this luxury … do not worry! You can always travel, you do not have to go physically, you travel through books, videos or movies. It will not be the same but at least it is something, that at least will allow you to transport to another site from your home.

Wan Chai district, Hong Kong ( Asia )

Well, focusing on those people who can afford it …

  1. Bring a hand sanitizer just in case. If you go to a poor country where water is scarce … and you can not wash your hands. It is always good to be well prepared.
  1. Choose a country you want to go to. Once you’ve done it, write down the cities you want to visit and the places you want to go.
  • Another important issue is the camera. Almost everyone loves to have memories of our trips so bring a camera. If the camera is good you will have good resolutions in the images when printing them or making an album. The camera of the mobile is fine but it is recommended if you have a professional camera like the Canon.
  • Read about the culture to avoid offending the citizens of that country. Sometimes, clothing can make a bad impression.
  • Look at the time. It is recommended if you know the number of days you will be there.
  • Do not forget to take the medication if you need it. Try to take a letter from a doctor to avoid being taken away. Taking a certifier is always good.
  • Whenever you are going to travel, try to get a scan of your ID and your passport in case you lose the original documents. So you will have a reference that you travel with documents in case there is a problem. Try to leave the scanners in another bag to avoid losing them.
  • Do not forget to look for an accommodation. It is always good to know where you are going to spend the night.
  • Try not to take much clothes if you are one of those people who like to buy objects of your trips for your family, friends or even for you. Carrying a memory is always good. If you think about bringing something to those people you love, it’s a detail but you do not always have it but it’s not a necessity.
  • Bring a canteen if you think it is convenient.
  • Try to learn the language of the country. At least, the basic sentences or words like good morning! Thank you! Goodbye, etc.
  • Bring with you a guide book so it can helps you. If the book has a map better.

Take a small backpack instead of a bag. It is much more comfortable and you will reward the weight in case you have many things inside that backpack. Remember, try not to take everything with you. It is not necessary.

Quote: “But that’s the glory of foreign travel, as far as I am concerned. I don’t want to know what people are talking about. I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.” ― Bill Bryson, Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe

You are loved and nobody else understand me more than you do.

Thank you for seeing my qualities, as often as I am blind in my reality and for take care of me, you are indispensable in my world.

Sincerely, a friend to remember.

Photography.
I loved you.
Before.
You had become my closest friend.
You understood me
We made ourselves company.
Other professions came and took us apart .
Also, there were people who whispered in my ear to be more than intimate friends.

I thought we stayed together until we grew old together.
We had such a good time together.
We disconnect from reality.

We laughed together while we drank our cup of chocolate.
It was a spectacular memory
An unforgettable phase.
Undoubtedly.
We disconnected and we walked in the hidden streets, in those streets that few people go.
Which had become our favorite spots.
You always end up drawing me a smile on my face that I will never forget.
I have abandoned you without listening to you.
Without wanting to get to know you in depth.
Without explanation.

We did not have time to say goodbye.
I did not give you any chance.
I said goodbye without looking at you and the truth is that sometimes I would call you again.
I can not change anything but I can improve my future actions.
I hope we’re still friends, maybe not so intimate but friends,
I hope we continue to fall well.

You seemed my soul.
You looked like me.

You are my great reflection and at the same time my greatest treasure.
We used to go out in search of new treasures, in those lost streets.
We were fascinated by the idea of capturing the moment.
Freeze the moment.

Everything instantly.

Like a shooting star.

When I had my gray days, you always had the remedy to see me smile.
You had always an answer to my questions and to my gray pages.

I will be forever grateful.

Analog camera

Sincerely,

A friend to remember.

Sunsets that distribute leaves

The wind walked them in the streets of Barcelona

So happy, so happy, so them.

Their colors shone and filled with joy.

Those autumn days, beautiful, unforgettable, and unexpected.

The days smile at the citizens

With so much happiness that they blushed

The pleasure of life

The pleasure of happiness

The Pleasure of Autumn Sunsets

With her friends with her, the leaves.

Quote: ” She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!” __ Lord Byron

History: Ethiopia & United Kingdom

In 1862, The King of Abyssinia which now is known as Ethiopia was called Tewodros II. He sent a letter asking for help from the British Queen Victoria. Tewodros II requested weapons and military support to his country against neighbor countries of extreme Muslims and block the spread of Islam. He never received a response from the queen, so the King Tewodros II grew impatient. He soon discovered that Captain Charles Cameron who was the British Consul of Abyssinia at the time had just returned from Egypt, he was an enemy of Abyssinia. In spite of this, he decided to capture Captain Cameron and British hostages which included children, women, and men until he received a response from the queen. It was believed that these hostages were missionaries.

Robert Napier who was the commanding chief of Bombay Army. Also, he was known as the British Indian Army. Napier and others which include around 13,000 soldiers, 8,000 auxiliary workers and thousands of animals like mules, camels, and elephants sent out an expedition. They set out from Bombay on December 21, 1867, and took them over two weeks to reach Annesley Bay by boat(the coast of Africa) where they set up their base. A long journey was ahead of them, that took two and a half months over mountains, with heavy rain passing through a very tough, unforgiving environment.  Robert and his troops went to Ethiopia to rescue the hostages and win the battle of Magdala which it was taken in 1868 with the duration of four days.

Before the troops were able to reach Magdala they had to get past a large plateau at Arogya. British troops could see the Abyssinian soldiers camped out with heavy artillery. Unexpectedly the Abyssinian soldiers left their defensive positions and the British and Indian troops responded to the charge of Abyssinian warriors. The firepower from the British side was very powerful, turned into a devastating turn out for Abyssinia. In just ninety minutes the Abyssinians lost over 500 troops and thousands injured survivors retreated back to Magdala.

Tewodros wanted to surrender and sent two hostages in an attempt to make peace. Napier requested all hostages to be returned, but Tewodros did not comply. Later Napier encountered the hostages’ bodies at the bottom of the cliff, they wanted revenge so the British soldiers went to look for Theodoros II but when they arrived they saw Tewodros body’s because he shot himself with a gun that is believed to have been given to him by British Queen gave to him as a gift.

After the battle, ancient artifacts and various items were then transported by over fifteen elephants and two hundred miles. There was no written list or record of which items had been sold.

The British and Indian soldiers stole the artifacts of Ethiopia which one of the antique objects were the golden crown, nowadays it is exhibited in the museum of Britain such as the British Museum, British Library and the Victoria and Albert Museum, including Queens library at W. Many of the artifacts were sold to get money for the British troops, and the ones which it was not sold it was a gift for Queen Victoria.

Today there still is a lot of evidence to confirm this time in history. There is a road known as “kings road” many people today go to walk to the path, which leads you closer to the base of the cliff. Tourist can view the location of Tewodros suicide which marks the location of his first burial site.

These days it has been creating an association called “LaAFROMET (Association For the Return of the Magdala Ethiopian Treasures)” which is seeking the return of Ethiopian artifacts. After the war of Magdala among Ethiopians and the British, the army of United Kingdom stole objects of Magdala for two different reasons: The first reason was to donate objects with more value to Queen Victoria, and the second reason was to donate objects with less value and thus to be able to raise money for the army, the money was split between them as a gift after having defeated the Ethiopians during the Battle of Magdala. Also, Richard Holmes who was an assistant in the British museum accompanied the British Army when they stole the objects, he destroyed some historical objects and also made a sketch of the face of the emperor of Ethiopia ( Tewodros II ) in order to publish it in the British press.

The treasures were deposited at the Museum Kensington, the United Kingdom and today are exhibited in the museum itself. It is also shown the sketch of the emperor made by Richard Holmes.
